A unique aspect of Switzer Environmental Programs is the Switzer Fellowship
Network. This association of Fellows, Mentors, Leadership grantees and
environmental colleagues is an effort to help Fellows link with each other,
strengthen and promote the work of Fellows and Leadership Grant Program
recipients and help the Foundation track the longer-term results of Fellows'
achievements and professional development needs as they move through their
careers.
Switzer Fellowship Network activities include the annual fall Fellows' Retreats
in California and New England, other training opportunities, convenings and
communications. All Network members may participate in these efforts to
facilitate communication and interaction among Switzer Fellows and the
environmental community. Fellows are invited to take part in planning future
events and programs.
The Foundation web site, www.switzernetwork.org includes a searchable Fellowship
Network Directory, Foundation program guidelines, feature stories about Fellows
and lists of jobs, resources, links and events. Other communications efforts of
the Switzer Fellowship Network include a biannual printed Newsletter, electronic
newsletters, an electronic bulletin board and listservs.
In late September and early October, annual retreats are held to welcome new
Fellows in each region and provide an opportunity for former Fellows to renew
acquaintances. Fellows are expected to attend the retreat the year they are
selected and the following year. Former Fellows are always welcome and encouraged
to attend the retreats. The retreat program includes an interactive workshop,
dynamic speakers, a field trip and time for collaboration. Fellows will be
notified of the exact dates and locations for the annual retreats at the time of
their award. Retreat dates and program agendas will be posted on the web site
Calendar of Events.
