Ruth is an associate professor in the Urban and Regional Planning Department at the University of Florida. Her research interests include the connections between land use, transportation, energy, and environmental quality in both urban and rural settings. Her current research projects include a study on the implementation of the Florida Growth Management Act in rural counties in Florida, the development of tools for assessment of multimodal transportation environments, and in creating pedestrian--and bicycle--friendly communities. She received her BA in History from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin, an MBA from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and a Masters and Ph.D. in City and Regional Planning at the University of California at Berkeley. In addition, to her work experience as a policy analyst at the Public Service Board in Vermont, she was a Sierra Club activist in the Midwest in the 1980s.
