Induced hydraulic fracturing, or fracking, is a controversial oil and gas extraction technique in which high-pressure liquid fluid is injected into a wellbore to create small fractures in deep-rock formations to allow natural gas or petroleum to migrate to the well. Our Fellows are at the forefront of looking at the environmental impacts of fracking, from the contamination of groundwater and degradation of air quality, to the human health impacts of fracking.
