Biography

Mike has served as Washington State Director for The Nature Conservancy since November 2012.

Mike was Co-Founder/Principal of Pioneer Mountain Group (www.pmgadvisors.com) from 2006 to 2012. He and his team designed and implemented land and natural resource management and conservation projects in the western United States, Latin America and Canada.

From 2002 to 2012, Mike served as President & Senior Advisor of Lava Lake Land & Livestock, LLC (www.lavalakelamb.com). During his tenure at Lava Lake, Mike helped establish Lava Lake Lamb, the Lava Lake Institute for Science and Conservation (www.lavalakeinstitute.org), the Pioneers Alliance (www.pioneersalliance.org) and the Wood River Wolf Project. Mike and Lava Lake received national conservation awards from the U.S. Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management and the Natural Resources Conservation Service as well as the Cecil D. Andrus Leadership Award in Sustainability and Conservation. Mike was named a Hero for Wildlife by Defenders of Wildlife for his work in pioneering practices that promote coexistence between predators and livestock.
