Kate Voss
Biography
Katalyn Voss is a water resources scientist passionate about engaging diverse stakeholders – scientists, policy makers, public citizens, and business leaders – to tackle global environmental challenges. Kate is trained as a hydrologist and utilizes field-based geochemical/isotopic tools, remote-sensing datasets, and community perspectives to inform water management strategies. She is currently working as the American Geophysical Union/AAAS Congressional Science Fellow in Senator Tom Udall’s office. In this role, Kate develops policy recommendations for the environment and energy portfolios, which includes water resources, public lands, oil and gas reform, and global conservation. As part of the Senator’s team, she works with legislative staff on the Foreign Relations and Appropriations committees as well as New Mexico, U.S., and international stakeholders. Her previous work and research include: water supply and hazard assessments in the Himalayas (dissertation research and work with The Mountain Institute); water risk mapping for the private sector (Aqueduct at World Resources Institute); and, science-driven diplomacy in the Middle East and California (UC Center for Hydrologic Modeling). Kate is excited by projects that embed water management decisions within the water-energy-food nexus and that integrate natural resources management with social justice outcomes, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) education, and creative science communication.
