About Andrew's Work

Andrew Cohen directs the Center for Research on Aquatic Bioinvasions, which focuses on the science and policy of biological invasions. He is currently organizing a national campaign to persuade the US EPA to regulate ballast water discharges as required by the Clean Water Act; investigating the role of ballast water in spreading bacterial pathogens of humans and animals; researching false positives in PCR testing for COVID-19; investigating the historic ecology of native oysters on the Pacific Coast and the reasons for the failure of all oyster restoration projects in California; and investigating a recently-discovered, 19th century bed of a previously unknown imported oyster in San Francisco Bay.
