About Timnit's Work

Timnit is an environmental scientist who seeks to better understand (micro)plastic pathways and fates in effort to design infrastructural solutions for waste management. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology from Rutgers University-Camden and her PhD in Environmental Science and Management from UC Santa Barbara. Timnit views science as a vehicle of agency and is passionate about inclusive environmental futures and works with different organizations to advocate for them, specifically in the context of plastic pollution and nutritionally dense food access. She is presently the Presidential Postdoctoral Fellow at Arizona State University's Center for Environmental Health Engineering.
