About Maria's Work

Maria is a multicultural landscape designer from the border region of Tijuana-San Diego (MX-US). As a citizen of both nations, she acknowledges that this privilege gives her a unique insight, not just being bilingual but also multicultural, and enables her to perceive culture, language, ecosystems, and landscapes as fluid.

Her interest in landscape developed early on, as her family life revolved around outside spaces. Her initial path took her through an Associate's Degree in Architecture, where she was formally introduced to Landscape Architecture.

Her path through education was not orthodox. She experienced many odd jobs along the way throughout the years that solidified her character. She never lost sight of the possibility of pursuing higher education, which she accomplished with honors and a department citation at the University of California, Berkeley.

Now, she is pursuing her Master's in Landscape Architecture at the Rhode Island School of Design, where she hopes to inform her landscape design practice with sustainable efforts as an artist and maker.
