About Elena's Work
Elena has a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts, and graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a Master’s Degree in Ocean Engineering and a Ph.D. in Marine Affairs. She is the author of the book International Regulation of Underwater Sound

Elena has worked in the field of sonar and ocean acoustics for many years. Her research develops an integrated approach to ocean noise pollution that incorporates knowledge of physics, international and domestic law, and sound ecosystem management. Her goal is to formulate a well-balanced framework of rules and standards that apply to noise pollution as it relates to marine mammals management and habitat conservation.
