About Eric's Work

Eric Medina is a student in the Coastal Science and Policy Master’s Program at UC Santa Cruz, where he studies how coastal wetland restoration can improve habitat, protect urban spaces, and increase access to green space. He is excited about the opportunities climate adaptation presents for envisioning futures that prioritize both the ecological systems California’s cities rely on and the daily quality of life for people.

Before graduate school, Eric worked for three years as a Restoration Steward at Younger Lagoon Reserve, leading interns and community members in wetland and grassland restoration. In this and previous roles, he has emphasized the importance of building community through environmental work, helping students and peers alike build connections to place and work towards shared goals.

Eric grew up in Fort Bragg, California, in a large immigrant family from Yucatán, Mexico. He is inspired by the creativity, resilience, and generosity of his family, weaving these values into his work. Outside of school, Eric enjoys making pottery, surfing, and spending time outdoors or around a table with friends.
