Mulvaney quoted on dismissal of National Climate Assessment authors

Fellow(s): Dustin Mulvaney

In April, “the Trump administration dismissed the hundreds of scientists and experts who had been compiling the federal government’s flagship report on how global warming is affecting the country,” according to the New York Times.

The report is mandated by Congress, and is a critical resource for communities in assessing and planning for the impacts of climate change. With the “release” of all personnel working on the report, it is unclear what will happen with the sixth assessment.

Dustin Mulvaney was an author on the southwest regional chapter, and spoke to the Times about the impact should the report not occur. “We’d be losing the cornerstone report that is supposed to communicate to the public the risks we face with climate change and how we can move forward,” he said. “It’s pretty devastating.”
