Wilson joins Blue Green Alliance
Mike Wilson is the Director of the Occupational and Environmental Health program at the BlueGreen Alliance.
He joins the BlueGreen Alliance as an expert in occupational and environmental health. He previously served as chief scientist within the California state labor agency, where he worked with a legal and engineering team in the Cal/OSHA program in drafting a new regulatory policy for the state’s 14 oil refineries.
Before his work with state government, Mike was an assistant research scientist with the University of California, Berkeley, Center for Occupational and Environmental Health. He served as director and principal investigator of Berkeley’s Labor Occupational Health Program, where he worked with Berkeley colleagues to launch the Berkeley Center for Green Chemistry. Before returning to graduate school at Berkeley to study industrial hygiene, Mike served for 13 years in the emergency services as a firefighter, paramedic and EMT. He was a leader in an SEIU Local 250 organizing drive at the ambulance company that provided paramedic services for Santa Cruz County, south of San Francisco. Mike went on to serve as a rank-and-file organizer with Local 250 in EMS organizing campaigns throughout the Bay Area and spent two years as a field representative with Local 250 before returning to the field as a firefighter/paramedic with the City of Salinas, where he served as vice president and then as president of IAFF Local 1270.
Mike earned his Ph.D (2003) and Master of Public Health (1996) in Environmental Health Sciences from UC Berkeley. He is a graduate of the Harvard Trade Union Program.
