About Bart's Work

Bart is currently General Counsel at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Previously, he was Managing Counsel at the University of California, advising on a broad array of issues related to environmental law and National Laboratories and overseeing a team of experts in various legal disciplines. Prior to joining UC, Bart was an associate with a boutique litigation firm in Berkeley, California. His work there focused mainly on representing public entities and NGOs in matters involving water resources, environmental impact analysis, and land use planning. Bart also served as an environment officer in the US Agency for International Development's Foreign Service and was stationed at the Regional Development Mission for Asia in Bangkok, Thailand. Before USAID, Bart was an attorney with the Natural Resources Defense Council in Santa Monica, California. 

Bart grew up tromping through the woods in Maine and became a park ranger at Point Reyes National Seashore in California after college. He then served as assistant campaign manager on a valiant but unsuccessful congressional campaign, which convinced him to flee to Canyonlands National Park in Utah for another stint as a ranger. Somehow, during his wanderings, Bart decided to study environmental law and urban planning and received his joint JD/MUP from Harvard University. Bart also received an AB in French literature from Harvard, which necessitated graduate study in a more practical field.
