About Michelle's Work

Michelle is currently working as an assistant professor in the Environmental Studies Department at California State University of Sacramento. She will continue her work in wetland riparian restoration and ethnoecology. Michelle completed her Ph.D. in Ecology in June 1999, and has worked at the interface between restoration ecology and ethnobotany. From 2003-2005, she worked as project manager for the Eden Again project to restore the Mesopotamian Marshes of Iraq. Michelle is the founder and director of the non profit HIia Mesopotamia: Water and Peace in the Middle East, and is actively working toward social justice, eco-cultural restoration and equitable water rights in the Middle East. www.hima-mesopotamia.org.
