Foundation signs Trust-Based Philanthropy ‘Meet the Moment’ pledge

The Switzer Foundation is one of 180+ grantmakers signed on to Trust Based Philanthropy’s Meet the Moment pledge. This call to action is a commitment to move in solidarity, mobilize money, and nurture possibility by taking trust-based, courageous action on behalf of grantee partners and communities in this critical moment.

The Switzer Foundation is already in alignment with many trust-based philanthropy principles and is committed to continuing to support the Switzer Network community in our grantmaking, events, and organizational practices.

Some trust-based practices from the pledge that we already enact include offering support beyond the check (such as recent events on legal support for federal employees and navigating career transitions), being transparent and responsive about how the foundation is navigating this moment, and supporting connection and convening (such as recent and upcoming regional gatherings of Switzer Fellows).

Some areas where we aim to increase our alignment with the principles in the pledge include streamlining processes to simplify applications and reporting for our post-fellowship grant programs, temporarily increasing our grantmaking budget to provide additional support to the Switzer Network, and collaborating with other funders and fellowship programs to convene extended networks of environmental leaders.

We welcome input and collaboration around foundation practices and trust-based philanthropy. Please contact Sarah with questions, suggestions, or to talk about implementing trust-based philanthropy or encouraging your own organization to sign the pledge.
