About Nicolas's Work
Nicolas Lama is currently pursuing his JD and MS in Environment and Resources at Stanford Law School and Doerr School of Sustainability, where he focuses on environmental law, ocean justice, and climate resilience. Inspired by his upbringing in south Florida and his deep connection to the ocean, Nicolas is passionate about using legal and policy tools to support frontline communities and protect natural ecosystems in the face of the climate crisis. He graduated from Columbia University with honors with a B.A. in Economics and Political Science.
At Stanford, Nicolas serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Stanford Environmental Law Journal, President of the Environmental Law Society, and Financial Officer for the Stanford Latine Law Students Association. He was also named an inaugural Ocean Leaders Fellow by the Sustainable Ocean Alliance. Most recently, Nicolas served as a Student Attorney at Stanford’s Environmental Law Clinic, where he worked with tribal clients and local governments on marine conservation and coastal resilience issues. As a Litigation Intern at NRDC, he also supported lawsuits and policy projects related to climate change, public lands, and protecting environmental justice communities from hazardous waste facilities.
Across his work, Nicolas is driven by a commitment to building equitable, community-informed solutions to the climate and biodiversity crises. He is also an avid surfer, scuba diver, and ocean enthusiast.
