Water Treatment Technology on the Ganges River, Year 2

24,000 awarded to The Pacific Institute in

This project takes the current effort to implement more effective and energy efficient wastewater treatment solutions on the Ganges River in Varanasi, India to the next level. The primary focus of the first year of this partnership was for Bailey Green to outline specifications of a new water treatment system that is based on ecological principles, and which has much lower energy requirements, than is currently being used. The process for adoption of this new alternative technology has been long but is close to coming to fruition. This second year of grant support will fund Bailey's continuing effort to provide technical expertise to the governing bodies that have authority over decisions while working very closely with a local partner NGO, the Sankat Mochan Foundation, which is the lead local organization advocating for the adoption and implementation of this technology.
